CDR-King’s California E-bike

rsz_1mbp_pink

Everyone knows what CDR-King is and most if not everyone would also know where the nearest CDR-King Branch would be. Much to everyone’s surprise, there is actually a CDR-King subsidiary, California e-bike. CDR-King has always been known to be the Pinoys’ one-stop-media-provider and California e-bike is starting off with something unique, as well. This is to bring products and cost efficient means of power/electricity supply to every household.

ebike

California E-bikes, a CDR-King subsidiary, open its doors in TONDO. The branch is powered by a hybrid electricity system that enables sustainable solar energy. As environmental friendly as it should be, it also aims to display similar concept Solar-kit for ones household in turn helps you save thousands of your hard earned money on monthly electric bill.

California E-bike started its operation in the Philippines early 2013 with E-Scooter and later on came out with other variants of e-bikes. Today California E-bike offers more than 30 variants in more than 40 branches.

With the steady growth of e-bike followers, California E-bike is gearing towards its mission to improve transportation in an eco-friendly way, one e-bike at a time and reaffirming its efforts towards Green Living to save our environment.

Visit them at their newly opened Tondo branch or your nearest California e-bike store. You may also visit www.ebike.cdrking.com and http://solarquestph.com/

Roel Rosal : Premium Pinoy Designer

rsz_1mbp_pinkAre you aware that what you wear brings a message to anyone who sees it? For some, what they wear is an expression of how they feel for the day, for some it is a display of their personal style, while there are also others who have their jobs or the roles they play dictate what to wear. As a working Pinay mom, I go for comfort and ease but without compromising my style. It is not surprising to be surrounded with designers who have become my friends or the other way around,  friends who have become distinguished designers. Case in point, Pinoy designer Roel Rosal. Roel Rosal is a product of Cagayan De Oro fashion industry and has been based in Manila since 2000. He has worked his way up with only confidence and sheer talent on hand. He worked up the ranks from being a fashion design contributor to setting up his own shop. Long before Fashion weeks and countless runway shows happening left and right, I have always been a fan of Roel Rosal’s creations. StyleBiblePh would never allot a page for him if the Philippine fashion scene does not agree with me.

Roel has always had an eye for anything creative. I remember spending time with him as he prepared for his first Mega Young designers’ Competition several y ears back (Mega Young Designers Competition is a Philippine fashion designers competition that has evolved into a reality tv show search for the next young fashion designer of the Philippines). You may see Roel’s creation now on major billboards and ads (both print and TV), but his penchant for everything creative and his excellence in delivering his planned details has never stopped capturing the hearts of the buyers and followers. Walk into his shop in Binondo, Manila and experience his full attention to clarity on his designs. He is a designer who learns and listens but is rightfully skilled to sketch and execute his designs in no time.

Roel may have moved on to other trends but my favourite will always be his 2009 Philippine Fashion Week Luxewear. Long before the other designers who followed suit with using pearls in their fabrics, Roel has creatively and uniquely used them for his designs. In fact, these were also the same dresses that were used and are still being used by celebrities and known personalities on countless ads on all media channels. Just imagine the time he spent on getting this idea on paper plus getting this idea on fabric.

Roel is never shy to join fashion design competitions and never fail to deliver. This probably explains why most of the movers in the fashion industry would almost always have Roel Rosal on for their runway shows. He also displayed the Filipino bravado when he worked, for a time, overseas to share his design prowess and distinct taste for detail and retail creativity. It was both a training ground and at the same time, a fashion playground for Roel when he again did not disappoint editors and celebrities, even while he was away.

Season after season, Philippine Fashion Week would have Roel Rosal on Couture shows. His collections have attracted a lot of raves and reviews that highlights his skills and talent while putting him alongside the best of the best in the Philippine fashion industry. Our friendship may have started while he was flourishing as a breakthrough designer back then but the laurels that he now has have never changed the way he appreciates friendships and his blessings around him.

Quoting him when asked what his designs are primarily about: “My clothes are usually basic shapes made with unusual detailing. The designs must always stand the test of time, look sophisticated, make the wearer feel classy and come off as expensive even when they are not.”

Business is not slowing down for this guy because his network is continually expanding with his reach and followers growing bigger each year. It is hard to keep up when he doesn’t fail to come up with fresh set of designs each time. No wonder both advertisers and clients would go to him as first stop for their retail needs.

His clothes are not for the faint-hearted. His collections are stories in itself, stories of Filipinas who are confident enough to wear their personalities out. Women who wear Roel Rosal creations are those who want to show what she has accomplished without pushing too hard or without forcing one’s style. It is so varied that there is enough to choose from for streetwear, evening wear and couture!

Some of his collections exude mystery, without showing too much skin but revealing a sense of who the wearer and designers are. His clothes also do not hit the mark of expressing the woman’s sensuality and passion for everything that defines her. He is inspired by the sound of the beach, natural gems around him, or icons such as Gloria Swanson.

Roel Rosal is a Filipino artist to the bone who is not afraid to use materials that are distinct to the Philippines and has always been a strong advocate of what Filipino designers should be. It is hard to miss Roel Rosal on countless campaigns nowadays. Walk up to him and you will discover how he talks with ease that he is such a Promoter for his fellow Pinoy fashion designers. He is not the type who would endlessly talk about his collection but will never fail to recognize the great work of his Pinoy contemporaries.

The last time I went with him to Philippine Fashion week, I drooled with his creations walking on the runway like sweet treats for the kids. His luxewear collection is classic, timeless and unique, it can take you to your workplace event, an important family celebration or a glam night with friends.

Look no further for a display of authentic Pinoy fashion collections. Pinoy fashion design at its best is the story of Roel Rosal.

A Week in the Life of a Mommy Blogger

rsz_1mbp_pinkA week is never the same for this mommy blogger. For one, this week is the post-exam week for kiddos and next week, we will welcome the long-awaited school break. This means a breather from tutorial sessions, and time for me to set up lots and lots of activities my kids can do while they are home. My eldest also welcomes the break from Science High School weekend review classes he has been attending (since May!). Ever careful not to make projects out of my kids, taking the sembreak for a slower and leisurely pace at home.

Much to my fun and amazement, my mommy blogger self was also in for a treat, as Lazada has gathered select blogger affiliates for the launch of Lazada’s biggest online affiliate competition, Affiliate Online Revolution. Ever-generous Lazada let us in on treats and surprises for all bloggers, SEO practitioners, online store owners, community managers, social media influencers and digital marketers who were present for the night at Best Western Antel Hotel.

Learned a lot from Speaker Mannix Pabalan and from Maldive Sponsors

Another highlight for the week was this year’s Blogapalooza Seasons 2015. Partner booths were set up that included a long list of blogger perks for everyone present to take home. Also learned a lot from the bloggers forum where bloggers’ etiquette was discussed and reinforced for all attendees. Highly appreciate and thanking Blogapalooza Community for staging a lesson-filled event this year held at One Esplanade. More than the freebies and partners’ giveaways, went home with more learnings I will apply on my next posts.

2015-10-26 19.32.38To cap my day, dropped by Freeway to make good use of the gifts I got from writing about Stylist in Pocket (Freeway, Ensemble and Solo). I was so engaged after writing about Stylist in Pocket that I got my friends from work to try it, too.

Overall, it was a week to thank God for, also because ultimately, I got to spend the week with the best people from home, from my workplace, and from friendships around me.

Are you part of the 9 in every 10 Filipinos ”highly concerned” about Getting Sick?

rsz_1mbp_pink

A healthy lifestyle is always a top priority with me and my family. I spent the first eight months of our marriage with an active lifestyle of trekking, climbing and running. It is not a surprise that my kids have gotten used to long rides, long treks and leisurely walks.

It is not a surprise that when Herbalife Health poll did a survey for Manila, it tells us that nine in 10 Filipino consumers surveyed by global nutrition company Herbalife are “highly concerned” about the potential diseases that an unhealthy lifestyle can cause them, with the same number believing that simple lifestyle changes can help improve their overall well-being.

A good number of the respondents expressed willingness to adopt a healthy lifestyle; 79 percent said that they would cut down on unhealthy foods, 78 percent expressed their willingness to exercise more regularly, and 72 percent said they would make better nutrition choices.

“We welcome the results of the survey. It gives an understanding of Filipinos becoming even more health concious and self-aware that they need to make some lifestyle changes to improve their overall well-being. It also gives Herbalife an idea where we are needed, because as the survey revealed only four out of 10 would spend 10 to 30 minutes a day to make simple lifestyle changes,” said Rosalio Valenzuela, Herbalife Philippines General Manager.

The respondents, however, cited the following as the top obstacles to achieving a healthy lifestyle: lack of time for exercise (75 percent), lack of time to make proper nutrition choices (64 percent), and high cost of healthy food (62 percent).

The same health poll likewise showed that the top three aging-related concerns in the country were heart, brain, and eye health.

Better knowledge and understanding

“The findings from the Herbalife survey clearly show that the majority of people in Asia Pacific that we questioned believe in the value of good nutrition and exercise as contributing to their overall well-being. We aim to play a greater role in providing practical tips and information to people to help them understand that the journey to a healthier, more active lifestyle is not difficult to achieve. With as little as 10 minutes a day, consumers can take positive steps to improve their nutrition and be more active, which will improve their overall well-being,” said William M. Rahn, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Herbalife Asia Pacific.

Herbalife_HEalth_Poll_(1)[1]

Herbalife conducted the survey in September 2015 in the lead-up to its Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour. It surveyed 1,200 respondents across six countries, including the Philippines, on perceptions towards their health and current lifestyle. Respondents from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand were likewise included in the survey.

Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour

Now on its fourth year, the Herbalife Asia-Pacific Wellness Tour aims to deepen people’s practical understanding of the various aspects of living a healthy active lifestyle. Its previous tours in the past three years saw close to 60,000 participants across the region.

This year’s Wellness Tour will feature five members of the Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board (NAB) visiting 14 markets and 21 cities across the Asia-Pacific in the month of October. They will share their expert views on how people can make use of the little time they have to make simple lifestyle changes that will enhance their well-being.

Herbalife’s NAB experts will likewise share their views on a wide range of health-related topics, including weight management, brain health and aging; heart health; immunology; and skin care at the medical symposia being held in Australia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnamn.

The Herbalife NAB experts participating in this year’s Wellness Tour include Dr. David Heber, who incidentally will be coming to Manila, is a leading expert in the field of nutrition and named as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and considered one of “The Best Doctors in America”; Dr. Lou Ignarro, a Nobel laureate in Physiology or Medicine in 1998 for his discovery of nitric oxide’s health benefits; Dr. Gary Small, a specialist in brain health and aging who has authored over 500 scientific works and has received numerous awards and honors, including the “Senior Investigator Award” from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry; Dr. Marion Fltechner-Mors, a health nutrition specialist who is currently heading the nutrition and obesity research group at Ulm University, Germany; and Dr. Wang Jae Lee, a physician and academic specializing in immunology and a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine.

Dr. Heber, who is the founding Director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles, will be conducting a symposium for free to Filipino medical practitioners on October 23, 9am, at the Manila Hotel. The symposium will gather a group of 100 doctors, nurses, physical therapists and medical practitioners. The title of the symposium is “Obesity: More Than Just Being Overweight and Nutrition Forecast for 2020.” Seminars of Dr. Heber are recognized by US hospitals as part of Continuing Education Studies, which are often required of applicants. The following day, Oct. 24, Dr. Heber will be holding seminars for thousands of Herbalife Independent Members in the same hotel.

This is the first time Dr. Heber, who is also the Chairman of the NAB and the Herbalife Nutrition Institute, to conduct a seminar in Manila since the company was founded in the Philippines 22 years ago.

Focaccia : OpenRice.Com Review

rsz_1mbp_pinkSo it is midweek and all of us at work are getting on a project we are calling: Happy Us At Work (Okay, I made this project name up) The ultimate goal of the project is to be happy at what we are doing at the workplace. In my mind, I know that this will not be too different from what I have always been an advocate for: working at it with all of your heart as if you are working for the Lord and not for men. And so, to celebrate that Happy Us at Work opportunity, three of us trooped to Focaccia at the A. Venue Mall in Makati. Of course, you also have to remember that this is still part of my Yummy October partnership with OpenRice.

20151022_155044

It is interesting to see that a wall welcomes you in, full of scribbles and notes from those who have already dined in Focaccia. Reminds me of a restaurant in Mekong River, Vientiane, Laos with a wall full of colourful notes.

20151022_160851

20151022_161026

20151022_161156

One thing that stands out for me is their pizza roll, served with fresh arugula and alfalfa sprouts. If you have tried Yellow Cab’s Dear Darla, you may be confused and say that it is exactly the same except that Focaccia had it first since 2011.

So next time you are visiting Mercato right outside A.Venue, roll away your cravings with pasta, pizza and friendship.

Caramia : OpenRice.Com Review

rsz_1mbp_pink

And so my gastronomic and tummy-filling relationship with Open Rice still continues. Tastier September may have ended but Yummy October has started and will stretch to Delish November. It seems my Christmas season has started early with the amount of eating I will need to do, but enjoying every second of it. I am not new to the cake scene and in fact, have tried Sonja’s Cupcakes (no longer in Terraces), Tous Les Jours, and even Cake2Go. I am no cake connoisseur but I certainly know my cake.

We were surprised to find out that we walked into Caramia Fairview Terraces in perfect timing, as they offer a 20% off your total receipt when you dine with them between 1pm to 6pm. With the amount of food we had, glad to see a receipt that was under Php500.00.

20151020_163111

First slice to try is Pistaccio Cioccolata, lightly roasted pistaccio brimming with chocolate. Imagine the yum level of a home made refrigerator cake and take that taste to tons of delicious level. If you like the mixed taste of nuts and chocolates on your taste buds, this will be a big hit.

20151020_153727

Caramia is a chocolate cake heaven. Next up was Dream Chocolate cake. It is not like your regularly-red-boxed chocolate cake, not too sweet but flavored enough to take you to eat a couple of slices or even more!

20151020_163129

Sometimes I get confused if what I was eating was regular cake or gelato cake and it is the same delicious and happy confusion I got when I tasted Sea Salted Honey Crunch. There is light mocha cream sandwiched inside the cake and there are solid candy crunchies on top. Just go easy with snacking on the topping, I originally thought it was soft, I gulped a big one with a hard crunch surprise.

Amici : OpenRice.Com Review

rsz_1mbp_pink

So there is this restaurant that is aptly named for its ambience, Amici, which means ‘friends’ in English, really gives off that perfect backdrop for conversations with friends. I am a pasta lover and one does not need to be in Italy to try that authentic Italian yummy pasta taste we have all grown to love. I do not certainly need violinists around me or a gondola. All I need is the taste of al dente pasta and my cravings for it is instantly satisfied. When do I usually give in to this cravings? Yep, at least once a week.

20151020_153541

We actually ended the previous week at the workplace with ordered food from Amici and I certainly enjoyed the seafood pasta and the chocolate gelato! But I just had to try their food straight out of their kitchen.  And so as much as I always shoot first before eating, my friends have come to love the fact that if we go together, we should be ordering different plates. Thanking God for food buddies! I am certainly now raving about Penne Rosa and Bacon. Penne made more interesting with Italian bacon flavoring. In love about classic spaghetti? Go for Linguine Fantastico Pasta and you will never look at a classic-looking Amici spaghetti again. Bon appetit!

Conti’s : OpenRice.Com Review

rsz_1mbp_pinkPinoys are always big about the food served on the table. For one, we have one too many family traditions celebrated with food! It is your hamon and bibingka during Christmas, it is your festive fruits and keso de bola on media noche, it is your pansit or spaghetti on birthday meet-ups, or your brewed coffee and cake combo on afternoon visits from friends. And so at the workplace, it is also common for us to either eat at the pantry (which serves good food!) or step out at least once a week, to take time off the walls of your office, or to engage with happy-thoughts-conversations with your favorite people from work.

20151014_133955

And so when we heard that Conti’s is now at Fairview Terraces, we didn’t waste the time to go in and sample what people are raving about. Of course, we have already tried their famous mango bravo cake countless times, it has become Pinoy’s favorite cake present or even favorite potluck dessert to bring.

20151014_134345

Trust Pinoy restaurants to always have the classic carbonara on their menu. And trust me to always go for one. I will probably have to write a separate blog post about the countless carbonara’s I have tried from different restos. So how different is this? For one, it is served warm, it didn’t taste like it has been plated hours before you ordered them. That can’t happen with Conti’s as most of the tables have wait lists.

20151014_140523

Pinoys end a good meal with dessert with an S! We tried two: Mango Cheesecake and the one we will never get tired of: Mango Bravo.

What Other Things You can Do While in Baler – Other than Surfing

rsz_1mbp_pinkBaler can very well be dubbed the surfing capital of the Philippines. It attracts countless tourists and locals, surfing enthusiasts flock to Baler year on year. But if you are a mom like me, to four kids, what other things can you do as a family, while in Baler? We all know that Baler is best known for its big waves perfect for those who want to ride them and perfect for those who want to get started with surfing. Surfing (as defined by Wikipedia) is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which usually carries the surfer towards the shore. So we braved the big waves, armed my boys with their kickboards, because the surfboards are surely too heavy and too big for them. I see surfer learners who end up falling towards the water, with their surfboards falling right behind them.

balercover

So if you are on the lookout for other things to do while in Baler, read up and know your options.

Baler Destination #1 – Ermita Hill

On the way up to Ermita Hill, it is hard to miss the beautiful landscape around us. I made a quiet thank you prayer to God for creating such beautiful places to visit around the Philippines. The view from the top is breathtaking, you can see the shoreline against the beautiful sand surrounded by lush trees around it. Ermita Hill has a lot of scenic spots where you and your family can take Instagram-worthy pictures while enjoying the view of the ocean and the sound of the breeze. If you have more time to spare, take more time from one of the view decks, remember God’s blessings and thank God for His gift of nature.

2015-10-17 18.14.30

Baler Destination #2 – Chef Gerry’s Picnic Bay

Craving for the buffet places from the metro? You will never miss it when you visit Chef Gerry’s Picnic Bay where you can go for eat-all-you-can-buffet for just Php200.00, kids plates are at Php150.00. Choose from any of their seafood, Inihaw and shabu-shabu specialties. I am not so sure if you know but Chef Gerry is actually a migrant from China, you would be interested how a Chinese chef like him has mastered serving Pinoy dishes with the best Pinoy flavours we love to have.

Baler Destination #3 – Asia’s Biggest Balete Tree

As soon as we get to the place, the tree is hard to miss with its size and height. It actually looked so intimidating and to an extent, creepy because of its big branches stretching from the roots to the top. In fact, the tree is so big, a tour group can actually get inside the tangle of branches (they are so big they look like a group of trees). We chose to climb up from inside and from outside, too. Make a mental note that one is only allowed to climb upto 3 meters high. Anything higher than that is not allowed by any of the site guides.

2015-10-17 18.21.07

Baler Destination #4 – Nanay Pacing’s Souvenir Shop

Tagaytay has Rowena’s and Baler has Nanay Pacing’s. There is an advantage about visiting Baler off-summer-peak-season. All of the destinations are crowd-free and you do not have to queue to be able to go around. And so, we were able to choose what we want to take home without rushing and without having to wait for our turn around Nanay Pacing’s Souvenir shop. Tried their sampalok goodies, peanut butter, pastillas, and meringue. Oh by the way, do not be surprised if you happen to spot Nanay Pacing herself manning the counter.

2015-10-17 18.33.30

Baler Destination #5 – Museo De Baler

There is something that sets this museum apart from other local museums. It accurately allows you to view the cultural heritage of the past and present. The ground floor is full of historical displays and facts that have helped shape Baler to what it is now, while the upper floor displays modern art and sculpture that clearly expresses what Baler has become. Museo De Baler’s facade is so inviting it became the beautiful background for our family picture. I didn’t realize all of us were aptly clothed red and blue, it looked like a picture we have planned to take.

balerfam

Baler Destination #6 – Ditumabo Mother Falls

This is not the first time our kids had to take a trail before getting to a perfect place to swim. We did the same thing for Kabigan Falls, Pagudpod where everyone had to walk for 30 minutes on a trail of land, mini-rivers and hanging bridges. Caramoan also required my kids to do a bit of walking before finding the right spot for swimming in one of the Caramoan islands. And so when it was time to take the 45 minute walk to Ditumabo Mother Falls, my kids were all for it. The falls did not disappoint. Just make sure you do not stay too long with kids because the water can be too cold for swimming.

ditumabomotherfalls

Next time you visit Baler, make sure you ask for a Baler map so you can freely create your itinerary as you go around the nooks and corners of what makes Baler a family-destination.
