Chef Rob Pengson

Rob Pengson is a rebel of sorts. And this fact is apparent in the food he serves at The Goose Station, the restaurant he has built together with his wife Sunshine. The restaurant, regarded as the first tasting menu focused establishment in the metro, is known for its inventive, thought-provoking, even groundbreaking cuisine that challenges traditional cuisine by ignoring dogma and infusing culture and heritage into cooking.

Chef Claude Tayag

Self-taught culinary savant, Claude Tayag is known to have uplifted Pampango/Kapampangan cuisine through Bale Dutung (Wooden House), his abode turned into a by-reservation-only restaurant serving traditional Pampango cuisine. Spicing up Chef Claude’s culinary career is his passion to preserve the diversity of the Filipino cuisines which he showcased at the Peabody Hotel’s Chez Philippe Restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, when he was invited to serve his special selection of Filipino cuisine at the Memphis in May Festival 2012.

Highlighting the best in food, art and culture of the Philippines, these chefs shared to the guests the delectable dishes that are proudly Filipino. With their artful skill in creating wonderful meals, it is such a delight to know that the Philippines has so much excellence to offer in the culinary world.

Madrid Fusion Manila is the first culinary festival with Spain and Asia’s legendary chefs Andoni Luis Aduriz, Elena Arzak, Quique Dacosta, Ramón Freixa, Francis Paniego, Paco Roncero, Mario Sandoval, Paco Torreblanca, André Chiang, and Alvin Leung. Presenting the Philippines’ own diverse and imaginative epicurean traditions are chefs Fernando Aracama, Margarita Forés, J Gamboa, José Luis “Chele” Gonzalez, Pepe Lopez, Rob Pengson, Bruce Ricketts, Myrna Dizon, Claude Tayag, and Juan Carlos de

Summer with Diksyonaryo Atbp’s 2015 Summer Reading Camp

My childhood has always been full of memories of teacher-teacher-an, book & comic reading and memorizing songs. Reading has been part of anything enjoyable I had to do every summer. It is not surprising that I developed into going for reading dates with hubby (where both of you show up wherever quiet, read up and then take the time to share) and into considering curling up with a book as me-time.

This May 2015, Ms. Lia Mañalac del Castillo’s Diksyonaryo Atbp. will stage a reading and literacy activity called Summer Reading Camp.

reading

Ready for another camping kind of day in the city, reading and listening to stories?

On its second year this summer, DIKSYONARYOATBP, a non-profit non-stock non-government organization will stage  SUMMER READING CAMP in Manila (May 23) and Quezon City (May 30)!

There will be teepees set-up for the reading camp where kids can participate in any or all of the following:

  • READING CORNER–read all the books they want from DiksyonaryoAtbp’s mobile library
  • ART CORNER – unleash their inner artist by engaging in art activities related to stories read to them
  • STORYTELLING CORNER – listen as children’s stories come alive via The Storytelling Project team

Aside from participating in these events, parents/ children can also avail of books from National Bookstore on site, which they can donate for DiksyonaryoAtbp’s future projects or take home for themselves.

This event aims to rekindle and encourage a genuine love for reading in Filipino children, by spending one whole day doing reading related activities, ALL FOR FREE.

To register your child, please click HERE or click http://projectdiksyonaryo.com/camp-registration/.

The event is in partnership with The Storytelling Project, Pottly and Tubby, CanvasPH, National Bookstore and Mcdonalds.

Three Learning Events That Will Help Families This February

There’s no doubt about it — families need all the help they can get to thrive in different aspects of life. This is one of the reasons why learning events that are especially focused on the various needs of families are becoming quite popular these days.

Featured here are three such events, all happening this last week of February — choose one (or more!) event that suits your family’s current needs, dreams and plans, and get ready to expand your knowledge! IMG Wealth Academy’s Practical Money Management and Basic Investment Strategies Seminars

IMG-WA-generic

When/Where: February 24, 2015 (Tuesday), 6.30 p.m. (Quezon City), February 26, 2015 (Thursday), 7.30 p.m. (Cainta, Rizal) plus other dates/times in different venues

The IMG Wealth Academy holds regular financial literacy seminars where people can learn how to manage their money and make it grow through investments — all for FREE!

The seminars are a great way for you to know how to handle your hard-earned income prudently so that you and your family can eventually be financially free. The seminars are held in different areas such as Quezon City, Cainta, Rizal, and Makati City. For specific venues and schedules, please contact the following: Nida Vergara — 0998-5352675 or Mon Santiago — 0916-4279839.

The Learning Basket’s Teacher Yaya Workshop

When: February 28, 2015 (Saturday), 9.00-11.30 a.m.

Where: No. 29, 1st Street, New Manila, Quezon City

teacheryaya

Most parents usually have no choice but to leave their children with a nanny or yaya while they go to work or different places. It’s vital, then, that yayas be equipped with the knowledge that they need to take good care of their wards.

This is where parenting advocate Mariel Uyquiengco comes in. Let her teach your yaya the importance of her job, a more positive way of looking at the children under her care, and a more informed way of caring for your children via this hands-on workshop.

The learning fee of P500 per head is inclusive of handouts, snacks, and a certificate. To register your yaya, click here or visit The Learning Basket’s website.

The Breastfeeding Club’s Breastfeeding 202 Class: Sustaining Breastfeeding

When: February 28, 2015 (Saturday), 1.00-3.00 p.m.

Where: No. 29, 1st Street, New Manila, Quezon City

Breastfeeding 202

This class on sustaining breastfeeding will be given by Abbie Yabot, a La Leche League Leader, Certified Lactation Counselor, and The Breastfeeding Club’s (TBC) founder.

Abbie has years of experience counseling moms about breastfeeding and holds regular classes aimed at helping parents — especially moms — learn about how to give their children the “best start” in life via breastfeeding.

The registration fee of P800 is inclusive of participation of both husband and wife to the TBC’s three breastfeeding classes, plus snacks and a breastfeeding manual. To reserve your slot, call or text 0917-8110821.

Learning events such as those mentioned above are truly useful, because they are designed to help family members help themselves (yes, your yaya is sort of like a member of the family—your family’s “assistant” of sorts). Your own family will reap the benefits of such events, too, so do make sure to participate them if you can.
